New Year's Resolutions for Students

New Year's Resolutions for Students

It’s snowing in Dublin and time to make plans for the New Year! Lots of us make long lists of things we want to stop doing or things we want to start doing … but how many new hobbies do we really take up? Sometimes it’s better to keep things simple. As a student there are a few easy changes you can make to improve your study habits:

  • Use a large notebook in class. Small books fill up quickly and are lost. A large notebook will last for the whole course.
  • Use headings and diagrams when taking notes to make your ideas clearer and easy to read after the class.
  • Review your notes once a week to keep information fresh in your head.
  • Ask questions in class; communicate with your teacher and other students.
  • Sit next to people from another country in class so you have to speak more English every day.
  • Find out if you can read extra books on your subject; join the City Library for access to free books.
  • Find out what kind of exam questions you will answer and practice writing that type of answer.
  • Do a few hours study every week instead of trying to cram everything into the last weeks before the exam. It’s easier to remember information in smaller parts.

Do you have any other study tips?

Weekend Tips

Do you like Argentinean tango music? Sebastian Pecznik is at Mother Reilly’s Bar http://www.dublinpubscene.com/thepubs/motherreillys.html in Rathmines on Saturday. For something different try the Hugh Lane Gallery for the Sundays at Noon free concerts: Mozart.

And if you haven’t had enough of the ice, this is the final weekend of the Dublin on Ice shows at Smithfield
