Puppet show at the Temple Bar Circus Festival

Studying and learning English in Dublin can be hectic – you have to study 4 days a week at Abbey College and work a part-time job but you also want to fit in some fun! So if you don’t have much time, here a few things you can do in or around Dublin.

Iveagh Gardens

Many Dubliners don’t even know about these gardens.  Only recenly opened to the public, the gardens are large enough for a picnic or game of football. Go to the Stephen’s Green shopping centre and walk up past that partk to Harcourt Street, walk up Harcourt street and you will see the Iveagh Gardens on your left.  Open until sunset in the summer months.

Sea Kayaking and River Kayaking

Get out on the water for a day and see Dublin from a different angle.  Go with Deep Blue Sea Kayaking and visit islands like Dalkey Island, only 45 euro for the day which includes your kayak. Or try Wild Water Kayak Club if you want to take a course and reallylearn how to paddle your own canoe.

Royal Canal Walk

Go to the Newcomen Bridge near Connolly Train station to start this canal walk. If you’re feeling energetic, you could go for 4 hours all the way to Leixlip town. Otherwise bring a map and you can break off when you feel tired. You can catch the train back to the city at places like Ashtown or Castleknock.

Weekend Tip

The Temple Bar Circus Festival started yesterday and will run until July 12th. Just walk out of Abbey College after class and cross the street.All the events are free – including a street samba session, trapeze artists, Chinese acrobatics and outdoor movies.
